Aquinas Academy is a homeschooling support school and tutoring center that offers a classical Catholic education. It offers classes as well as one-on-one and small group tutoring opportunities. Parents can choose to register their children in as many classes as they choose, a trimester at a time, resulting in children attending anywhere from one hour a day to full time. Classes are held Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays (a special half-day dedicated to the arts). Because it is meant as a support for homeschoolers, parents are expected to be involved in and responsible for their child's education. Those new to homeschooling or afraid of the challenges it brings can find much-needed support here. Parents are always welcome to stay during their child's school day to observe and develop their own skills as educators.
Aquinas Academy has a pediatric physical therapist to aid with physical education and serve students with therapeutic needs. Cost for physical therapy is separate from tuition, but insurance is accepted.

Who would be served by Aquinas Academy?
There are a variety of reasons parents might want to participate in Aquinas Academy. Some parents are interested in homeschooling, but are unsure they are able to, and would simply like some support. Perhaps there are only one or two subjects for which they would like support. Some parents wish to homeschool their children but can not do it full time because they need to work. Aquinas Academy provides the opportunity for their child's educational needs to be met while they work, and still allows them primary control over their child's education.
Other parents may not have considered homeschooling before, but want to provide their children with a Catholic education and simply can't afford to. Some families feel their child needs a smaller class size than a public or Catholic school can offer. Still other families are specifically looking for a hybrid approach to their child's education. They may want the benefits that homeschooling provides as well as some of the benefits of "going to school."
Finally, there are those who want to provide a classical education for their children and can't find any local schools that offer one.
Flexibility
Flexibility is the key to Aquinas Academy. The Church teaches that parents are the primary educators of their children, and we believe that extends to all disciplines. Aquinas Academy offers a flexible program that parents can use in the way that best meets their needs. Some families will enroll in only one or two classes, while others will choose full enrollment, getting some of the benefits of a conventional school schedule, while remaining highly involved in their students' education.
Parents are given a syllabus for each class at the beginning of each trimester. They can easily plan trips during the school year, taking responsibility for the missed work without worrying about absences. They can choose to exclusively homeschool certain subjects or supplement with any materials they like.
Families also have the opportunity to be involved on-campus as much as they would like. Parents are always welcome to stay for class, and can sign up for slots on the class aide schedule as a way to alleviate tuition costs. There are also numerous volunteer opportunities.
Please note: At Aquinas Academy, we do not see ourselves as competitors of Catholic schools. We offer a unique homeschooling support program, and we support the diocesan schools. We frequently collaborate with diocesan school teachers and offer summer support that helps their students achieve their educational goals. We also hold in high regard the other Catholic homeschooling options. Our families have specific needs that are not met elsewhere. They may need classroom support for their efforts, or a hybrid approach to homeschooling. Some have had to resort to the public schools because they have not been able to find a Catholic education solution that works for them. We hope to provide a high quality solution.
